Community Rowing @ the Bish Rowing Club 2025/26
The Bish RC - Community Rowing
The past year has been hugely significant for Bish RC with the introduction of our community rowing programms.. In collaboration with Rowing Ireland, Women in Sport, and the Galway Sports Partnership, we have introduced rowing to a wider audience through introductory sessions, recreational programs, and indoor training sessions.
Our journey began in May 2025 with the Women on the Water initiative, where 24 women experienced rowing on the beautiful river Corrib. It was notable to see our junior members coaching and sharing the experience with their parents and even their school principal.
In August, during HER Outdoor Week, another 20 participants enjoyed rowing on the river Corrib. Despite the weather in September affecting our outdoor "improver" plans, interest in rowing remained high.
In November, we hosted Rowing Ireland's first "Rise and Row" structured indoor program. This pilot has grown into a community with over 32 male and female participants attending sessions twice a week. Most recently, in March, we celebrated Women in Sport Week with a well-attended indoor taster session in collaboration with the Galway Sports Partnership.
Whats next?
Upcoming plans include:
- Adult Beginner & Improver sessions: "Return to Rowing" courses.
- Summer Camps (more details available in the Get Going, Get Rowing post)
These programs are made possible by our dedicated junior coaches and rowers, whose commitment to volunteering and mentoring new rowers embodies the Bish RC ethos of giving back.
